Qari Hafiz Karim Sultan Siddiqui
Hafiz al-Qur’an, Qari Karim Sultan Siddiqui is the chief Imam of Al-Noor Masjid.
Born in Lahore, Qibla Qari Sahib was born into a family of coveted scholars and spiritual ancestry. His grandfather was Munazir-e-Islam Hazrat Mawlana Mohammed Umer Icherwi Sahib (ra), one of the leading scholars of the Indian Subcontinent who specialised in the field of debating. He penned several books on this topic, of which many are used today. His father was Hafiz Sultan Bahu Siddiqui (ra), a true servant of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and an exemplary beloved of the Holy Qur’an.
Certainly, Qari Karim inherited his love for the Qur’an from his beloved father, from whom he memorized the Qur’an at a young age. His education was cemented at Jamia Nizamiyaa Rizwiyya, Lahore, where he specialized in tajwid.
He learned his expertise in reciting naats in praise of the Prophet (peace be upon him) from countless esteemed experts, including Muhammad Ali Zahoori. The result of this learning was astounding. Qari Karim won first place in a nationwide Naat Competition in 1993, which was organized by the Government of Pakistan. Three years earlier, the Governor of Punjab presented him with the award of the Qaide Azam Medal, Pakistan.
Throughout his life, Qibla Qari Karim has sought spiritual attachment to the men of Allah. In 1996, he took the hand of allegiance (bay’a) Mawlana Fazal ur Rehman Madni (ra) in Madinah Sharif. He has always remained close to the masajid; he was the chairperson and Imam of Jamia Masjid Ghuasia Janazgah Muzang Lahore in 2001.
Hafiz Karim Sahib has traveled extensively in the Muslim world, with the divine mission of bringing people to the word of Allah and the Sunna of His Beloved (peace be upon him). His travels have taken him to the United Kingdom (where he served in several mosques), Canada, Oman, Norway Saudi Arabia, and back to his native Pakistan. He has featured on many TV channels, such as Takbeer TV and PTV.
Qari Karim has served Al-Noor Masjid since 2022, where he has led the daily prayers, jumu’a prayers, Eid prayers, and more. The Muslims of Houston have been mesmerized by his Quranic recitation in Tarawih prayers, attracting easier listeners from all over Texas. He is also serving the community through his Hifz al-Quran classes at the Mosque.
Undoubtedly, Qibla Qari Karim is known internationally for his beautiful naats, that are recited from his heart and thus felt in the heart of the listener. He has taken people to Madina Tayba with his heartfelt odes.
But it is his attachment to the Quran that makes him truly unique. He started leading Tarawih prayers at the age of 18, and has led consecutively for thirty years, including the UK cities of London, Manchester, and Birmingham. He is only a handful of imams in the entire Muslim world who recite the entire Quran in fajr prayers regularly, a feat which he has completed twice at al-Noor Masjid. His recitation in prayer is astounding and meticulous, with close attention to the rules of tajwid.
Since 2018, Tarawih prayers at Al-Noor Masjid have been a special, spiritual experience, thanks to his recitation. At the same mosque, he started the “Shabeena” program (the complete recitation of the Quran in Nafl prayers at night during Ramadan) in 2021. As a result, several other huffaz of Houston have had the opportunity to read and revise their Quran.
