Allamah Mufti Qamar al-Hasan Qadri

Hazrat Qamar al-Hasan Bastawi’s blessed birth took place in the state of India, Uttar Pradesh, Basti district (current Sant Kabeernagar) and specifically in the village of Dharwah. His honourable father, Hazrat Al-Haaj Mawlana Muhammad Ishaaq (ra) paid special attention to the education of his son and in order to make their son a pioneer scholar of the religion of Islam, not only did they make the intention but also made a firm plan. When Hazrat Mufti Qamar al-Hasan was of age, he was sent to the primary school in a nearby village called Thoka. The early years of Islamic education took place in the village and his honourable father started the Qa’idah before sending him to the Madrasah. Maulvi Suhbat Ali (may Allah have mercy on him) was the teacher. After he completed education up to the fifth grade, he was enrolled in the nearby junior high school in Meerganj. However, his inclination was entirely toward religious studies, so his respected father withdrew him from school and enrolled him in the prestigious religious institution, Darul Uloom Ahl-e-Sunnat Tadris-ul-Islam in Basti district. There, he completed the memorization of the Holy Quran and studied intermediate Arabic texts. In 1970, he was honoured with a graduation ceremony upon completing his memorization of the Holy Qur’an.

Afterwards, he joined one of the country’s renowned religious institutions, Al-Jamiya Al-Islamia in the town of Ronahi, district of Faizabad (currently Ayodhya). Here, he completed his education up to the level of ‘Fazilat’ (advanced Islamic studies), studying subjects such as Tafsir (Quranic exegesis), Hadith, Usul al-Hadith (principles of Hadith), Fiqh (Islamic jurisprudence), Usul al-Fiqh (principles of jurisprudence), Logic, Philosophy, Kalam (Islamic theology), as well as Arabic Rhetoric, Eloquence, and Tajwid (Quranic recitation). In 1978, he was honoured with a ‘Dastar’ (graduation turban) and a certificate of excellence, as well as a qualification in Qira’at (recitation) of Asim by way of Hafs.

After graduating from here, he spent one year at the prestigious Islamic institution of India, Al-Jamiya al-Ashrafiya in Mubarakpur, Azamgarh, UP, for further studies and to receive blessings. However, his thirst for knowledge continued to motivate him further, so he pursued an M.A. in Persian at Asia’s prestigious institution, Aligarh Muslim University, graduating with distinction. Following that, he completed an M.A. in Urdu from Avadh University in Faizabad, passing with first-division honours. Yet, his desire for knowledge remained unsatisfied, so he went to Libya and completed an advanced course in Arabic at the College of Islamic Call (Kulliyat al-Da’wah al-Islamiyah) in Tripoli. Thus, he dedicated a significant part of his life to the pursuit of knowledge.

Hazrat Mufti Qamar al-Hasan came to the land of America in June 1992. He started his Islamic and worldly services at the main Sunni institute, ‘Al Noor Society of Greater Houston’. Upon seeing the busy and fast pace lifestyle of the people of America, he split the topics of lessons into different categories. This is so that people find it easier to act upon and to take away from any difficulties they could possibly face, and so that the mission in religion did not face hindrances. With all of this in mind, he started the journey on teaching and preaching in different manners.

Endless thanks and gratitude to the Eternal Lord, who blessed the world of Sunni Islam with such shining stars, scholars whose intellectual and spiritual light illuminates the world. Their knowledge and wisdom, their thought and creativity, are filled with the spirit of religion and sincerity, benefiting countless minds and hearts. Through their understanding and awareness, a whole universe is being enlightened and enriched.

Certainly,  Hazrat Allama Mufti Muhammad Qamar al-Hasan Qadri Qamar Bastawi is such a radiant figure of this elite genre. He has become a torchbearer of the thoughts of Imam Ahmad Raza, illuminating the legacy of the Grand Mufti of India and America, and enriching the spiritual atmosphere with his insightful works. By writing works such as “Ya Ayyuhal Mudathir”, he adds to the hearts of the lovers of the Prophet (peace be upon him), kindling their passion. Furthermore, through “Ya Ayyuhan Nabi”, he not only ignites the flames of love for the Prophet (peace be upon him) within the hearts of Ahl-e-Sunnat Wal Jamaat but also strikes at the roots of false ideologies and corrupt thoughts. Today, on the soil of America, he raises voices of loyalty to the Messenger (peace be upon him) through “Ya Ayyuhar Rasool” & “Ya Akram al-Khalq”, echoing a call for unwavering devotion in the camp of non-believers.
